The Medal of Sexology for Lifetime Achievement is an honour awarded by the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists (AACS) to individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of sexology over their careers. Established in 1986 by Dr. William Granzig, the AACS functioned as an academic branch of the American Board of Sexology, providing specialized education and training in clinical sexology. The academy operated within Maimonides University in Miami, Florida, and continued its educational mission until it closed in early 2020 following Dr. Granzig’s passing in 2019.
The Medal of Sexology for Lifetime Achievement was among the accolades conferred by the AACS to recognize outstanding dedication and impact in the study and practice of sexology. Recipients of this award have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to advancing sexual health, education, and research. For instance, Dr. Shere Hite, renowned for her pioneering research on human sexuality, was honoured with this medal on December 18, 2004.
While the AACS is no longer active, its legacy continues through the professionals it recognized and the contributions they have made to the field of sexology.
